Virtuoso responds:
"Well the MNC's coming our way are very attractive.. .. I must try to resist that [ ]... but there's no point doing a B.Tech from a place which is well... not amongst the best (Universities) ... I just hope I dont regret waving a lucrative job for a B.Tech is some Private college (IP).... The MNC's i'm talking about are very lucrative and offers a chance to learn more and ofcourse gain exp.... infact, SLB gives us something like a 40 Months training... and the packages are very rewarding... Although I think you know better! B. Tech it is... but I hope I dont end up in some shitty college! [ ]" |

"I know its very tough to pursue both job and studying at a time...but i talked to a guy who did this...he did part time B.tech from DCE...n now hes in IIT delhi doing M.tech! How do u rate IP? I could have been there just after 12th as i was selected..but i drooped it coz their infrastructure wasn't that attractive.. .and i found Pusa as much more renowned college...i was discouraged by many for this decision...But thats past. I give DCE more values than IP..even if its part-time... - " |

| Personally i would recommend to complete atleast the Bachelor's level before getting into a job. But part-time DCE is a GREAT option (if you dont have other family responsibilities besides a job). Working and studying at the same time *IS HARD* so be prepared for that. Masters can be pursued at your own pace alongwith a job i think. The reason is that the more time passes after diploma, it gets stale and its transfer into a bachelor's course becomes more difficult (like >10 years). But once you have bachelors, you have bachelors... even after 30 years it will still be regarded as a bachelors and eligible for Masters. Not the same for Diploma. |

As far as I feel, completing degree is very important, specially for we Diploma holders from good Institutes like Pusa. It was required for us to complete the degree then(late eighties & early ninties) and it is more important for you youngsters now to do it. I have valid reason for this, as there are more engineering institutes now(pvt. & Govt.) than compared to our times. The engineering has now become a regular degree like BA or BSc. I am really happy for you guys that you have been able to get good jobs after completing your diploma, but believe me, the way engineers are being produced now a days, it is getting more tougher for people getting Diplomas for institute of repute like Pusa Polytechnic. Anyway, one should not get discouraged with chellenges in life, actually chellenges give reasons to our existence in this world. I heard from somebody during a seminar. That gentleman told that every morning I wake up I pray God to give me some problem, because the people who don't have any problem are people who are in their graves. So be positive in life and always ask God in the morning to give you more chellenges. As you will grow in life, you will have wide range of chellenges, but for right now it should be managing your job with your degree. As soon as you complete your degree, it will be good for your career. But YOU MUST DO DEGREE, THAT'S THE ADVICE. You may ask, why I am so much emphasizing on this issue, actually it is Rajeev with his 18 years of Industry experience, is telling you. When I completed Diploma & got into job, I thought that I am an Engineer & that's it! But when you go in the market you realize, that there is more to be aquired on knowledge front than what we have. Moreover, people who get this knowledge, with their job & experience, are not considered par with degree holders. Then when one sees, a young engineer with 1 or 2 year experiece is given preferance over a diploma holder of 5-6 or more years experience, merely because he is degree holder, than frustration comes. Believe me, any degree you get, may not help you in your present job, but definately it will help you when you change one.
Now the question comes, from where to do it. Personally I feel weather you do AMIE or from DCE or from Jamia, it hardly matters, till the time you are gaining your Industrial exposure along with your job. Moreover a degree weather corpondence or part time , is not going to get you immediate gain in your profession. It will be only helpful in your next change, unless you are with public sector. So aspire to get it from DCE or Jamia or BITS, but if you can't get addmission/or may get it difficult to continue it with your job, do AMIE/IETE. But then there is another saying TIME IS LIKE MONEY, MANAGE IT AS YOU MANAGE MONEY. My only advice will be try to get it as early as possible. May be you people can enrol yourself for AMIE/IETE immediately now and start giving the groups. At the same time try to clear enterance of DCE/Jamia/BITS etc. If you get admission in between, make a choice that time, atleast you will not face time gap & loose enthu of studies, afterall at the end of the day it definately matters if you get your degrees from these institute. Please don't feel I am giving political statement by endorsing any degree earlier & then giving weightage to degrees from DCE etc later, all I am mentioning is try to get into these institutes if possible, otherwise do it from correspondence, but YOU MUST DO IT |
